Stump furniture is entering its 18th year of trading having come a long way from its humble beginnings.
Stuart Whewell who went to university to study Film & Sound production realised that his flair and creativity were not been utilised in that sphere.
Having done an apprentiship with a local firm in Yorkshire who specialized in producing high-end furniture that was exported to Belgium & Germany, Stuart was quickly moved to the “specialist team” who concentrated on reproduction furniture.
As his entrepreneurial spirit began to glow more brightly he left the security of employment to set up his own business in 1998 with a friend.
Using a credit card they spent £800 on tools and rode on the back of enthusiasm and desire to succeed.
Identifying an opportunity to use Reclaimed timber to make furniture (a skill that Stuart and the team at Stump have perfected to an art), the business grew and expanded.
They have relocated the workshop twice since 1998 due to expansion and they now inhabit premises in Burley-in-Wharfedale near Ilkley.
Stuart has created a niche business that is focused on creating unique pieces of furniture, with a dedicated team of craftsmen who will individualise your piece as required. The business is completely customer centric with service & attention to detail the defining difference from others in the marketplace.
A family man Stuart is a keen outdoors adrenaline junkie who loves mountain biking & snowboarding amongst being a dad to 3 children and wife Natasha.
